Guest at Archon, releasing virgins, and the sound of thunder

As teased in last month’s blog update, “The Memorybox Vultures” is now out in Fantasy & Science Fiction and has been getting some wonderful reviews. It was also a pleasant surprise to see that the story was selected to open the issue. Hey, it doesn’t take much to make us writers happy.

The publication of my novel Ten Thousand Thunders is no longer an abstract notion to me, but is finally starting to feel like reality: the book hits bookstores everywhere on October 18. The first physical location that I’ll be promoting it is at Archon in Collinsville, Illinois, and which will feature me as a panelist and moderator. If you’re local, feel free to stop by and say hi. I’ll be there on October 12-13, and this handy link shows my appearance schedule. In addition to panels on kaiju, superheroes in film, the world of Blade Runner, and more, I will be reading from Ten Thousand Thunders and signing limited copies.

My story “Extinction Studies” is now live at Terraform. Feel free to check out this study in duality and totally-in-no-way-a-parable-or-otherwise-related-to-modern-events tale here. Also, enjoy the outstanding artwork by Zoe Dijk.

In one of my more unusual sales announcements, I was just notified that I sold my story “Old Spirits” to the RELEASE THE VIRGINS anthology. I’ll be sharing the TOC with some serious talent–David Gerrold, Alex Shvartsman, Jody Lynn Nye, Sharon Lee, and many more. The challenge was to write a story in which the book’s title features in an important way (and each selected story was required to have the title utilized directly in the text of the story.) I wrote something… um… very unique. Publication will be around December of this year.
